On Saturday, June 16th, 2012 the MBAA held its first Boating Expo in partnership with the Mitchell’s Bay Marine Park. Poster announcements, radio ads from CKXS (99.1) Wallaceburg and word of mouth were used to advertise the event. There was also live radio coverage on-site the day of the event. At the marina, representatives from Maple City Marine (Chatham), Howell’s Marine Ltd (Chatham), Hully Gully (London), and Tilbury Auto Sales were on site to display and discuss the features of various water crafts. As well, three local boaters, Gary Brabaw, Wayne Norton and Terry VanDerveken demonstrated and informed a captive audience about the mechanics of air boats. Members of the Canadian Auxiliary Coastguard explained the importance of boater safety and at an owner’s request, inspected their boat for safety. Those in compliance were presented with a safety inspection sticker for their boat. The Ontario Provincial Police (Chatham Division), Chatham Kent Police, Ministry of Natural Resources, and Boater Assist were also on hand to remind boaters of the importance of boater safety. Children were treated to rides from Tuggy the Tugboat to encourage a love for boating and boating safety.
Activities were also held at the beachfront. These included an animal petting zoo (sponsored by LeClair Farms), canoeing (facilitated by the Wallaceburg Canoe and Kayak Club) and Kite Boarding ( demonstrated by Tim Blanchard-Surf Culture).
The MBAA would like to thank all the merchants, volunteers and visitors who contributed to the success of the day.
